update; Thanks for the kind comments :), i just wanted to add a small anecdote which I wasn't even thinking of when I painted this, - I was with a small diving group in Oz, we did a night dive off Moreton Island, (to see coral reef under torchlight is one of life's unforgettable moments), but that was the only light we had, despite it being a full moon, it was like swimming in indian ink. we were mooching around at 25 metres, and for a moment something really big and ghostly (and quiet!) came into the outer edge of our lights and then quickly disappeared back into the black, we totally shit ourselves. It seemed like a thresher shark tail but really fat, but it was so quick and unexpected, the mind plays tricks, never saw anything like it and still have no clue what it was, maybe a manta ray, humpback whale, great white? scary stuff! I've never been so colonically evacuated.

2nd update; picture revamped, a bit less realism, a bit more drama

Something tells me this seemingly devilish creature was simply curious by these unfamiliar visitors rather than actually hunting, as is so often the case with shark attacks in the real world

Naughty divers doing a wreck pen without the appropriate gear, but looks like running out of air or getting bent is the least of their worries. I've done a number of night dives and never had any thing freaky happen to me (even if the gopro footage looks like something out of a horror movie). But I was at 90ft once with 5 foot viz looking for a Japanese sea plane, and I agree that when you cant see anything around you everything messes with your mind. Even sea fans...

thank you, can you explain what extra gear you need for a wreck dive? i never took it as a specialty, but its on the bucket list :D

First let me start out with what I forgot to mention in my first comment. I love this piece its visually and conceptually stunning and it depicts what I love about diving, the exploration and the unknown, not the monster however I could do with out those on my dives ;) (Wink). It also shows that you've been on more that a few dives, because their movement is spot on to what its like. So bravo to you on this one you've earned my watch :D (Big Grin). As for the gear needed, honestly not much more than what they are depicted having. Definitely a reel and line to act as guide back to your entry point, at least 2 lights per diver a primary and backup and while I wouldn't say its mandatory a pony bottle couldn't hurt. I personally would have my console on a lanyard as well to prevent snagging. And for your bucket list if you get the chance do it, you wont regret it. My recommendation is the South Pacific the waters almost always nice and the wrecks usually have a story behind them other than sunk for a reef, wrecks with some form of historic background seem to have more awe inspiring feel to them. Hope that helps :D (Big Grin).

I love how the diver on the left is spazzing out... sadly no one can swim as fast as they can run... and even then I doubt he can outpace those little terrors.

I love this, especially the "OMGWTFBBQ" look on the diver, and you can almost see "What is it -now-?" look on the one who is about to be tentacle-graped.

However... that one dude's gotta have some serious kicking speed to hold up that lid without bracing against anything. lol

You're the first to mention this, (congrats!). This is when "panic diver" has just let go of the handle, and now the weight of the lid will trap down on the diver already exploring the pipe.
The person least at risk is the viewer :)

It looks like that diver is colonically evacuated- and the others will be soon.... :) That's a pretty scary creature. The ocean is big, and there are probably many sea creatures no one has ever seen before- or survived an encounter with, perhaps.

This seems like the start of a great movie or comic with two of the divers barely surviving the first attack by the creature only to be tormented by the creature until whatever ending is given by the writers is given.

This reminds me of my first night dive, I was 18 and I had just been certified. It was an overall pleasurable experience but there were one or two "what the hell was that" moments X3

Awesome work B.T.W.

Thanks WW, I updated the description for your entertainment,
however, it's not THE scariest true story I know, that belongs to the captain of our boat who did a wreck dive with only one torch (wtf!), which failed when he was deep inside the hull, he had to somehow feel his way back out, all the time his air is running out!

he may have done, but I think it would have been a fleeting comfort! I just know he took lots of risks, I often wondered why our Padi school contracted him, maybe he was uber-cheap, (padi = put another dollar in)
